OUR HISTORY

Kids in the Village began in early 2018, when a group of caring community members in Elk Horn came together with a shared goal: to help meet the need for quality child care in our area. After meeting with parents, employers, and local partners, and surveying families through the school email list and Facebook, it became clear that our community needed more child care options.

That effort led to the formation of the Daycare Steering Committee, which later became Kids in the Village, an Iowa nonprofit 501(c)(3). Since then, we have continued working to create a safe, nurturing, and welcoming place where children can learn and grow, while supporting working families in Elk Horn and the surrounding communities.

Along the way, we have partnered with Child Care Resource and Referral, worked to understand state child care regulations, and celebrated the support of our community through grants, donations, and fundraising. We are also proud to have achieved IQ4K Level 1 certification and are currently working toward Level 2.

Kids in the Village was built on the belief that strong child care strengthens families, employers, schools, and the entire community—and we are proud to be part of that mission.
